CAIRN YOUNG
Cairn Young was born in California in 1963, he studied architecture at Kingston University in London where in 1991 he founded the workshop studio Platt & Young with his friend and colleague-designer Robin Platt, a productive partnership that lasted many years, and through this project, they realize diversified products, from porcelain dishes to silverware, to furniture design. Cairn Young works as an independent designer for international companies and collaborates with brands such as Rosenthal, Koziol, WMF and Auerhahn in Germany, Driade and Sawaya&moroni in Italy and Baccarat Crystal in France. In the same period, Cairn develops other long-standing collaborations and among the most significant there is the Yard Sale Project, whose works are born from the combination of Young’s technical designs with Spencer’s master craftsmanship: a production of furniture on commission or in limited series, sometimes also for exhibitions in art fairs and museums including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, New York, the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, Washington.
